THE TREE OF CHERRIES (L’ARBRE DE LES CIRERES) Latin Cinema Series

After years of serving in a remote valley village in the Catalonian region of Spain, the town doctor decides to return to life in the city. His departure reverberates amongst the townspeople, as they wonder why some might want to leave and why others might choose to stay. Unconcerned by such questions is Angel, a young boy being raised by his sister and ailing grandmother, while his mother travels with a circus. Angel’s world-conception – a patchwork of dreams, imagination and interpretations of the words of the adults around him – frames the film’s vision of the town. This visually arresting tale evokes the vast world through the eyes of youth, a world we fear might be strangely empty but which we hope is as vivid all our dreams.
