THE BIG SPLIT New Directions

Tracey and Frank rushed into marriage after a mere two weeks. Now, on the eve of their divorce, they tell us they are “mature enough to rush back out.” She is a documentary filmmaker working on a project about Angelenos and New Yorkers; he is a driving instructor and aspiring composer. Circumstances – ranging from a chance encounter at a furniture store to the engagement of a mutual friend – prompt the newly-divorced couple to re-evaluate their former and current relationship in order to finally get to know each other. The film traces them from divorce to first date, threading past and present with glimpses of Tracey’s documentary, cleverly mirroring the young couple’s concerns. With its thoroughly charming characters and savvy observations, THE BIG SPLIT is a delightfully witty look at modern romance.
