THE YOUNG GIRL AND THE MONSOON New Directions

Growing up is hard to do – particularly for an adolescent girl in Manhattan with a photojournalist father still reeling from a messy divorce. Thirteen-year-old Constance is torn by life, stretched between parents and struggling through all the typical, daunting rites of passage. Her father doesn’t have it much easier. Distant and caring, Hank tries to provide an anchor for Constance, while anxious to get on with his own middle-aged life. The situation is complicated by his relationship with the much-younger Erin, who coincidentally wears the same Betsey Johnson dress as Constance. The story turns on Hank’s efforts to find enough room in his life for both Erin and Constance, attempting to finally achieve the balance that has eluded him.
