AMBUSH (RUKAJARVEN TIE) Official Selection

In the first days of the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union ( 1941-44), idealistic young lieutenant Eero Perkola unexpectedly sees his beloved fiancee Kaarina in a village deserted by the enemy. He asks his superior to have Kaarina and the other women of the auxiliary services transferred from the front line. In return, he accepts a dangerous reconnaissance mission into enemy territory. During the mission, Perkola receives the tragic news that Kaarina has been killed in an ambush by Russian partisans, sparking his own deeply personal war. Kaarina is alive only in memories that haunt him, causing anguish and pain. Devastated by his loss, Perkola becomes an avenger who closes his eyes to atrocities and forgets the meaning of mercy, raising the question of whether there is anything left of his humanity.
