LAPUTA: THE CASTLE IN THE SKY Anime Special Event

Hayao Miyazaki (PRINCESS MONONOKE) borrowed the name of the floating island in Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels for this film about a “flying Treasure Island.”

The story takes place at the end of the 19th century in an alternate universe, where flying technology is more advanced a la Jules Verne. A girl named Sheela holds the only key to unlocking the mysteries of a legendary kingdom in the sky, although she is unaware of its existence. She is pursued by everyone from air pirates to military officials obsessed with Laputa, until she is rescued by a boy named Pazu. The two embark on a fantastic and dangerous adventure to find the floating castle of Laputa.

With dazzling craftsmanship and storytelling flair, Miyazaki brings his characters and their adventures to vibrant life.
