BREATH OF LIFE (SOPLO DE VIDA) Latin Cinema Series

Borrowing elements of real-life misery and violence from contemporary Colombia, Luis Ospina has created an intelligent and poignant neo-noir.

A Former policeman investigates the murder of a girl killed in a seedy hotel. He knows her only by her nickname, Golondrina. As he reconstructs her life, he discovers her involvement with several men: an immoral political candidate, who is linked to paramilitary groups; a decrepit Former boxer; a blind lottery salesman; and an unsuccessful bullfighter. Like a puzzle, each.character defines a segment of the girl’s life. As the detective puts the pieces together one by one, he finds that he cannot finish without discovering he himself is one of the pieces.

Rodrigo Lalinde’s stunning cinematography infuses BREATH OF LIFE with a suitably haunting and oppressive atmosphere.
