NOWHERE IN AFRICA (NIRGENDWO IN AFRIKA) Made in Germany

Winner of German Film Awards for Best Film and Best Director for Caroline Link, NOWHEREIN AFRICA is based on Stefanie Zweig’s best-selling autobiographical novel depicting her German-Jewish family’s escape to Kenya from Nazi terror during the 1930s.

Leaving their loved ones behind, the Redrich family find themselves far from their bourgeois existence, thrust into the bleak lives of farmers on Kenya’s dusty, deserted plains. Far removed from even small reminders of home, Jettel and Walter desperately deal with poverty and isolation, even as their five-year-old daughter Regina is captivated by the African wilderness, thriving among native life.

With sharply observed, richly detailed performances and unforgettable images, NOWHERE IN AFRICA’s portrayal of a family torn from its roots expertly illuminates how we identify the intangible elements that make us call a place home.
