DRIFTERS (ER DI) Asian New Classics

Wang Xiaoshuai’s sixth feature follows the heartbreaking struggle of a father’s attempts to reclaim his own son.

A Since his deportation from America, Hong Yunsheng has searched for his son, whom he legally gave up to his employer in the States in order to keep his dishwashing job. Although his son has since returned to China-in the very town where Yunsheng now lives-Yunsheng is denied open visitation rights, and regaining custody is impossible. Eventually, Yunsheng must weigh the possibility of taking matters into his own hands, knowing that forcing his son back into his life could separate them forever.

Moving and elegant, DRIFTERS succeeds in packing an emotional wallop without ever throwing a punch.
