POEM – I SET MY FOOT UPON THE AIR AND IT CARRIED ME (POEM – ICHE SETZLE DEN FUSS IN DIE LUFT UND SIE TRUG) Made in Germany

Cast aside all narrative notions and open your mind lo the visual possibilities that erupt from this mod marriage of celluloid and poetry. POEM combines the words of great writers with carefully chosen documentary footage and dramatized interpretations.

Working like a musical composer, director Rolf Schmerberg selected more than a dozen poems by Rilke, Goethe, Hesse and others, interpreting them through the medium of film. The richly varied locations include Brazil, Spain, Vietnam and the Burning Man Festival in Nevada. The result includes episodes that ore by turns wildly experimental, colorfully straightforward and starkly impressionistic. A brief, though memorable, naked “bottle of the sexes” set lo the music of Beethoven brings everything to a rousing conclusion.

POEM will delight, startle, mesmerize and confound. Lovers of poetry and experimental film will especially enjoy this potent blend of rich imagery and soul-stirring words.
