THE BIG WHITE Special Screenings

THE BIG WHITE is a pitch black Comedy directed by Mark Mylod – shot in the Yukon and steeped in the miasma of this arrestingly cold place. This is a world with just the right kind of cliffs off which one could drop a frozen dead body.

THE BIG WHITE is the story of travel agent Paul Barnell (Robin Williams) and his wife Margaret (Holly Hunter) who are desperate and near destitute in Alaska. Having stumbled upon the victim of a recent murder, Paul tries to pass off his fatally wounded discovery as his long-lost brother, as a means to collect the insurance money. It seems that a frozen corpse is just the thing he needs to solve his financial worries and save his wife’s sanity-until the appearance of an ambitious but skeptical insurance claims adjuster (Giovanni Ribisi), two aspiring hitmen (Tim Blake Nelson and Earl Brown) and the unexpected return of Paul’s brother (Woody Harrelson).

With a delicate eye for detail and a keen sense of irreverence, Collin Friesen’s fiercely original script-and the gorgeous cinematography of James Glennon – propels THE BIG WHITE, which is alternately outrageous and mesmerizing. Mylod allows his pitch perfect ensemble cast the freedom to play out the action like an insane symphony, reveling in the dark tones peppered with gallows humor.
