POP SKULL Dark Horizons

There’s a moment early on in Director Adam Wingard’s debut feature POP SKULL where you will begin to doubt yourself. Don’t freak out – it happens to everyone . This isn’t a film that is ‘difficult to watch’ in the traditional use of the phrase – denoting challenging subject material or intense, visceral performances – although POP SKULL certainly has those things in droves. No, this movie is literally difficult to look at. It alternates long takes with rapturous bursts of frenzied visuals, periodically seeming ready to explode off the screen and take up residence inside your head. Permanently.

Everything on screen comes from the mind of Daniel, a prescription drug addict who lives in a house haunted by a terrible event in the past. Daniel is trying to kick his habit, but he is foiled by his best friend ‘s troubled relationship and some truly horrible dreams.

You’ll have the dreams too.
