Description

A prequel of sorts to KINGS AND QUEEN, Amalric (garnering his first Cesar) is a part-time philosophy lecturer laboring over a 400-page doctoral thesis while trying to break off his 10-year relationship with Devos. The film’s round-robin bed swapping and hyperarticulate ensemble recalls Rohmer, but Desplechin’s indefatigable exuberance is singular.
