JULIA’S EYES Midnight

From Spain comes this stylish new thriller produced by Guillermo Del Toro. Belen Rueda ploys twin sisters who both hove a degenerative eye disease that causes blindness. While Julio’s condition is not yet completely advanced, her sister is not so lucky and is driven to suicide … or so everyone believes. After the tragedy, Julio begins to suspect that her sister’s suicide was something for more sinister. In the vein of such classic thrillers as PEEPING TOM and REAR WINDOW, JULIA’S EYES ploys on the powerful gaze of the cinematic eye to create a macabre world of flickering shadows and the fear that someone is watching us in the dork. Creeping with tension, the film smartly ploys with genre conventions – at times winking at the cliches it traffics in, but always with a reverence that will elicit delicious chills in the heart of horror aficionados.
