AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY Galas

A dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house where they grew up, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Based on Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning play and directed by John Wells, the film features an extraordinary ensemble cast: Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney and Sam Shepard. The writing is superb and the cast takes full advantage of the room it is given to bring Letts’ complex characterizations to life with vigor, nuance and affection. Resentment, anger and addiction have distanced the Weston clan members from each other over the years and in returning home, they are forced to revisit the wounds of the past as embodied by their matriarch, Violet (Meryl Streep), who has a boundless ability to push her family’s capacity for forgiveness to new limits.

Over the past two decades, John Wells has been a creative force behind some of prime time’s biggest hit series, including ER, THE WEST WING and THIRD WATCH. Shows produced by Wells have received over 270 Emmy Award® nominations. His feature directorial debut was THE COMPANY MEN (2010).
