THE OWNERS (LOS DUEÑOS) New Auteurs

Taking inspiration from cinema masters like Claude Chabrol, Luis Buñuel and Woody Allen, theater veterans Agustin Toscano and Ezequiel Radusky present the timeless theme of class struggle in their comedic first feature film, THE OWNERS. Sergio, Ruben and Alicia are caretakers of an Argentine countryside estate in the northern province of Tucumán. Secretly squatting in the main house, the caretakers are accustomed to having free rein of the property and emulating the owners’ lifestyle of luxury. Their harmony is interrupted when the owners’ daughters, Lourdes and Pia, arrive unexpectedly and the caretakers must clean up the evidence and scurry out the back door to their humble back house and daily labor. Armed with a brilliant ensemble cast, THE OWNERS cleverly explores the difficulty of sustaining a lie as well as the constant impulse to want what we do not have.

Filmmakers Agustín Toscano and Ezequiel Radusky were born in Argentina in 1981. They studied drama at the National University of Tucumán, and in 2004, founded the Gente No Convencida Group, where they worked as actors, directors, producers and screenwriters. They have premiered six theatre productions. THE OWNERS is their film debut.
