MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM Special Screenings

Idris Elba embodies Nelson Mandela in this epic adaptation of Mandela’s autobiography, “Long Walk to Freedom.” It tells the story of his struggle to bring an end to the racist system of apartheid, which denied black South Africans their human rights for almost 50 years. Elba’s performance anchors the film as we follow his path from an idealistic young lawyer to a freedom-fighter leading the African National Congress (ANC) resistance movement. Mandela is sentenced to life in prison on Robben Island, and ultimately becomes the first president of post-apartheid South Africa.
