MR. ROOSEVELT American Independents

Despite doing an amazing impression of Holly Hunter haggling at a yard sale, Emily still hasn’t made it as a comedian in Los Angeles. One night, she gets an urgent call from her ex about the cat they used to share, who has suddenly taken ill. Emily rushes back to her hometown of Austin to find that much has changed, and that her ex has a new, seemingly perfect live-in girlfriend. While awkwardly staying in their guest room, Emily struggles to make sense of the choices she’s made in a town that isn’t quite as she remembered. Written and directed by Noël Wells, MR. ROOSEVELT tells a funny and empathetic story that will speak to anyone who’s ever felt that their dreams were just out of reach. – Sudeep Sharma
