A loose adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” MADAME HYDE follows Madame Géquil, a shy chemistry teacher who gets little respect from her students. When an accident in her lab causes her to be struck by lightning, Madame Hyde experiences an awakening. The arrival of this new persona finally gives her the confidence she needs to command the respect of her colleagues and engage her students during the day. But at night, strange occurrences threaten to derail her progress. AFI FEST 2016 tributee Isabelle Huppert is sublime as Madame Géquil/Hyde, a woman who desperately wants to make an impression on one of her students so she can prove herself a success to those around her. – Jenn Murphy
