Chilean filmmaker Dominga Sotomayor has only made three films in her nascent career but she has already developed a mature and singular aesthetic style. TOO LATE TO DIE YOUNG transports us to the 1990s Chilean countryside, where a group of young families have retreated from modern society to build a more utopian world for their children, away from capitalism and dogmatic ideas about family structures. As the adults experiment to build a more ideal society, the children are less interested in breaking societal taboos and instead grapple with the classic issues of adolescence. In this humid landscape, the haze of hormones and pop songs suffuse the atmosphere more than anything else.
