IDOL (WOO SANG)

Talent attending: Lee Su-jin (Director)

A fatal hit-and-run accident marks one family’s devastating loss and another’s downward moral spiral in Lee Su-Jin’s luridly satisfying revenge thriller set against the backdrop of a corrupt Korean political landscape. The smooth, up-and-coming politician Myung-hui (played to slimy perfection by Han Seok-kyu) makes the quick decision that his son should turn himself into police for leaving the scene of the accident. What seems, on the surface, to be the ethical thing to do, soon reveals itself to be the first step toward the dark side as Myung-hui will stop-at-nothing to preserve his political chances. Ambition, lust, and greed know no bounds in this cat-and-mouse neo-noir puzzle that continually remains one step ahead of the audience. –Ken Jacobson

Director Lee Su-jin’s feature directorial debut HAN GONG-JU won many top awards at various international film festivals, including Sitges International Film Festival and the Marrakech International Film Festival. World-renowned master director Martin Scorsese praised the film, “I have a lot to learn from this movie and can’t wait to see Lee Su-jin’s next film.”
