KLUTE

The inaugural film in Alan J. Pakula’s “paranoia trilogy,” KLUTE follows small-town private investigator John Klute (Donald Sutherland) who is led to Manhattan sex worker Bree Daniels (Jane Fonda in an Academy Award®– winning performance) while searching for a missing person. As Bree becomes embroiled in the investigation, they realize that she is being followed.

Alan J. Pakula was a New York-based director, writer, producer and three-time Academy Award® nominee for TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962), ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN (1976) and SOPHIE’S CHOICE (1982). He made his feature debut in 1969 with THE STERILE CUCKOO and directed KLUTE, the first installment of his “paranoia trilogy,” in 1971.
