THE STERILE CUCKOO Free Screenings Tribute

THE STERILE CUCKOO

Pookie (Liza Minnelli) is an eccentric, neurotic, and positively adorable college student determined to make reserved entomologist Jerry (Wendell Burton) fall madly in love with her. Alan J. Pakula’s 1969 feature debut is tender and profound, a contained story of first love whose impact resounds even 50 years later.

Alan J. Pakula was a New York-based director, writer, producer and three-time Academy Award® nominee for TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962), ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN (1976) and SOPHIE’S CHOICE (1982). He made his feature debut in 1969 with THE STERILE CUCKOO and directed KLUTE, the first installment of his “paranoia trilogy,” in 1971.
