DEERSKIN World Cinema

DEERSKIN

Purchasing a vintage, fringed deerskin jacket, George slips it on, gazes at himself and says with fervent ecstasy, “Killer style,” foreshadowing violent deeds to come. The shopkeeper also gifts him an old camcorder for good measure. From here, Georges — played with unhinged abandon by Jean Dujardin (THE ARTIST) — goes from existential midlife crisis to violent psychotic breakdown as he and his deerskin jacket decide that it should be the only jacket in existence. Encountering an aspiring film editor (Adèle Haenel, star of AFI FEST’s PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE), he enlists her help in documenting his new life’s mission.

Known for surreal films RUBBER and WRONG, Quentin Dupieux delivers another eccentric, dark comedy, this time about an image-obsessed man and his descent into madness. –Sarah Harris
