Description

Following the film, AFI FEST Programmer Eric Moore leads a conversation between filmmakers Justin Powell and David Charbonier and actors Lonnie Chavis and Ezra Dewey.

Twelve-year-old Bobby and his best friend Kevin have been kidnapped. Bobby is stuffed in a trunk to suffocate, and Kevin is who knows where. Proving ever-resourceful, Bobby escapes and breaks into the house where he thinks Kevin has been locked up. Dodging danger at every corner and hiding in the shadows, Bobby searches for his friend – and also for answers.

Lonnie Chavis (Bobby) and Ezra Dewey (Kevin) boldly carry the film and deliver impressive performances, and directors/writers David Charbonier and Justin Powell cunningly assemble a thriller that upends tropes and expectations and, yes, has you on the edge of your seat. –Eric Moore

Bios

David Charbonier and Justin Powell are filmmakers based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, they realized their passion for film at a young age, particularly horror and suspense. Having been best friends since childhood, the two began their careers co-writing a number of features along with co-directing a few well-received shorts. THE BOY BEHIND THE DOOR is their feature film debut. They are also in post-production on an independent horror-fantasy feature, THE DJINN, due to complete this year.
