ONE FINE MORNING (UN BEAU MATIN)

Following two travel films in a row – the India-set MAYA (AFI FEST 2018) and the metatextual BERGMAN ISLAND – Mia Hansen-Løve returns to her Parisian roots with another intricately melancholic work of auto-fiction. Léa Seydoux illuminates the screen as Sandra, a translator and single mother balancing raising her daughter and caring for her ailing father (Pascal Greggory), who is suffering from a neurodegenerative disease. While scrambling to place her father in a suitable nursing home, she unexpectedly encounters an old friend, Clement (Melvil Poupaud), and the two rekindle a passionate affair. Hansen-Løve, who lost her own father a few years prior, weaves together a finely observed and deeply personal tale of familial conflict and human connection. Gracefully realized in sun-kissed hues and unhurried naturalism, ONE FINE MORNING paints a complicated portrait of an unassuming heroine as she regards love and loss with bittersweet endurance. –Anna Li

Mia Hansen-Løve’s first feature ALL IS FORGIVEN (2006) was nominated for the César Award for Best First Film and won the Louis Delluc Prize for Best First Film. Her new feature ONE FINE MORNING (2022) with Léa Seydoux, Pascal Greggory, Melvil Poupaud and Nicole Garcia, premiered at the 2022 Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes.
