SLY Documentary

SLY

Screening to be followed by a conversation with director Thom Zimny, producer Sean Stuart and executive producer Braden Aftergood.

Sylvester Stallone looks back at his life and career in this intimate and surprising documentary directed by Thom Zimny. World famous as the face of the ROCKY, RAMBO and EXPENDABLES franchises, this Oscar®-nominated actor/writer/director/producer started from scratch, a young dreamer, aspiring actor and self-taught writer who relentlessly pursued a career in filmmaking against long odds. Stallone is an engaging narrator of his own story, with key contributions coming from his brother Frank Stallone; Talia Shire, Oscar®-nominated as Adrian opposite Stallone’s Rocky, and generously given credit here by her costar for why the film ultimately worked; director John Herzfeld, a close friend going back to the pre-stardom lean years; Quentin Tarantino, a great fan of Stallone going all the way back to 1974’s THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH; Henry Winkler, Stallone’s costar from that film and a lifelong friend; New York Times film critic Wesley Morris; and Stallone’s one-time action rival and friend, Arnold Schwarzenegger. –Todd Hitchcock
