Featuring an absolutely stacked cast of comedians including Mike Birbiglia, Nicole Byer, Atsuko Okatsuka and Tig Notaro, this candidly charming documentary explores the interconnectedness between the nature of comedy and mental health. Alternating between dedicated sit-down interviews and a larger group discussion led by Emmy Award® winner Neil Patrick Harris in front of a small live audience, this varied group of comedians participate in a public yet deeply intimate conversation surrounding the many aspects of mental health. They touch on subjects ranging from grief, the pervasiveness of suicide and addiction in the world of comedy, to personal experiences with depression, therapy and the various stages of their own mental health journeys. Although heavy topics are broached, the essence of their conversations is heartwarming, profoundly relatable and, of course, hilarious.
