AN AMERICAN IN PARIS Guest Artistic Director

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS

Starving artist Jerry Mulligan (Gene Kelly) shares a Parisian garret with unemployed pianist Adam Cook (Oscar Levant). When heiress/patroness Milo Roberts (Nina Foch) takes an interest in Mulligan and his canvasses, it could be their ticket to the big time – although complications ensue when Mulligan falls hard for shopgirl Lise Bouvier (Leslie Caron). This six-time Oscar® winner, including Best Picture, features a beautiful George Gershwin score, including “I Got Rhythm,” “Our Love Is Here to Stay” and an extended ballet finale inspired by impressionist painting. The film was named to AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies, 100 Years of Musicals and 100 Years…100 Songs lists, with film and theater critic Clive Hirschhorn calling it “18 minutes of screen magic, unsurpassed in the boldness of its design and the dazzle of its execution.”
