As Italy lurches to the far right, a Malian migrant finds a place amongst a family of charcoal burners in the remote Calabrian mountains.

Joshua Hughes is a documentary filmmaker and cinematographer, and Felix Bazalgette is a writer and filmmaker – both from London. They have collaborated on several projects including AWOKO which premiered at Big Sky Docs and was a Vimeo Staff Pick. FRATELLI CARBONAI, commissioned by The New Yorker, is their fourth collaboration.
