This film is preceded by THIS IS HOW A CHILD BECOMES A POET, screening together as a collection of two mid-length films directed by Céline Sciamma.

Originally made as part of a collection for the Paris Centre Pompidou, which poses the question “Où en êtes-vous?” (Where are you at?), Céline Sciamma’s answer, TUTTI FRUTTI, sees the filmmaker at her most personal yet liberated. Sciamma, who saw a meteoric rise with PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE (AFI FEST 2019), has largely stepped back from the spotlight after the 2023 Venice-premiered documentary short THIS IS HOW A CHILD BECOMES A POET, in which she filmed the last days of Italian poet Patrizia Cavalli’s home before it was demolished as a posthumous tribute. As a continuation and expansion on this solitary, essayist filmmaking experiment, TUTTI FRUTTI exists as an intimate visual diary that feels both intentional and candid, from the many labor union and pro-Palestine marches she’s attended in the last few years, to private moments with longtime collaborator Adèle Haenel during her arduous high-profile sexual abuse trial that marked the French chapter of the MeToo movement. Leading with a musing on Sappho, Sciamma also contemplates on the preservation of lesbian identity both interior and communal, historical and present. Under her hopeful and reflexive gaze, TUTTI FRUTTI reveals the limitless possibilities of dissident feminist cinema not just in ideology, but as a political practice. –Anna Li
