ELSINORE is the deeply emotional and inspirational true story of Ian Charleson, a gifted actor whose greatest challenge becomes his greatest triumph. Best known for his roles in CHARIOTS OF FIRE and GANDHI, Charleson was diagnosed with HIV in 1986 and died of AIDS in 1990. His final role was Hamlet, and he gave an acclaimed performance in a legendary 1989 production directed by Richard Eyre for London’s National Theatre. Andrew Scott gives a bravura performance as Charleson, channeling the actor’s doubts, drive, wit and resilience during the mid-1980s-era AIDS pandemic. Dedicating himself to the demanding role of Hamlet, and supported by his loved ones, his theater world colleagues, and the pioneering clinical care of Dr. Margaret Johnson (Olivia Colman), Charleson delivers a courageous performance that becomes a source of healing and inspiration for those around him. Directed by Simon Stone, from a screenplay by Stephen Beresford, ELSINORE’s outstanding cast includes Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Monica Dolan and Peter Mullan.
