Celebrated Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio (FISTS IN THE POCKET, 1965) steps behind the camera with this ultra-widescreen true story of the Sicilian Mafia and Tommaso Buscetta, the legendary mobster whose shifting allegiances makes for one of the most compelling modern dramatic stories of our time. As the 1980s heroin wars intensify, Buscetta flees to Brazil to hide out, but violence follows him. Extradited back to Italy, Buscetta makes a fateful decision that will permanently transform the Mafia. –Lane Kneedler

Marco Bellocchio was born in Piacenza, Italy. His debut feature, FISTS IN THE POCKET (1965), was followed by CHINA IS NEAR (1967), IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER (1971) and HENRY IV (84), among others. THE EYES, THE MOUTH (1982), DEVIL IN THE FLESH (1986), MY MOTHER’S SMILE (2002), GOOD MORNING, NIGHT (2003), VINCERE (2009), DORMANT BEAUTY (2012), BLOOD OF MY BLOOD (2015) and SWEET DREAMS (2016) have screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
