HE DREAMS OF GIANTS

Talent attending: Lucy Darwin (Producer), Keith Fulton (Print Source), Lou Pepe (Director)

In Keith Fulton and Lou Pepe’s irresistibly entertaining 2002 documentary LOST IN LA MANCHA, celebrated director Terry Gilliam attempted to complete a film adaptation of Cervantes’ masterpiece DON QUIXOTE. A string of impossibly unfortunate events — raging floods, a lead actor struck by debilitating cancer, crumbling finances — eventually forced Gilliam to abandon production.

In 2017, picking up where he left off 17 years later, Gilliam now has a new producer, a new cast, a new script, and leaner budget. Is it possible that, after all this time and gut-wrenching failure, Gilliam can finally pull this off? Fulton and Pepe’s highly entertaining follow-up answers that question and more, seeking deeper insight into Gilliam’s career, his outsized ambitions, artistic obsessions, and, of course, his dreams of giants. –Ken Jacobson

Their punk rock fever-dream BROTHERS OF THE HEAD (2006) won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature. THE BAD KIDS (2016) won the Special Jury Award for Vérité Filmmaking at the Sundance Film Festival.
